GVS Scholastic Chess Tournament

General Information:​​

• Game Format: Swiss System

  • Novice (I and II) and Elementary will play 4 games

  • Advanced and Championship will play 3 games

  • Time control of G/25;d5 for ELEMENTARY (K-6)

  • Time control of G/40;d5 for ADVANCED (K-12)

  • Time control of G/45;d5 for CHAMPIONSHIP (K-12)

• Date: November 8th, December 6th, January 10th, February 7, April 18, May 9, June 6

• Venue: Gantry View School (5-36 50th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101)

• USCF Membership: Current USCF membership required for all sections, except Novice (I and II)

• Early Registration: $35 until 11:59 PM EST October 31, 2025

• Late Registration: $45 from November 1, 2025 ($5 off for GVS students only)

• Check-in starts at 8:30 AM. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the event to check-in.

• Equipment: Chess sets, chess clocks, and notation sheets provided​

• All participants under 18 must be chaperoned by an adult or guardian. If you want to drop off, please email empire.chess.tournament@gmail.com

• To ensure a safe and focused environment, we ask that waiting children engage in quiet activities. Loud games and running in the hallways or waiting areas are prohibited.

Game Schedule and Awarding

• Championship Check-in: 9:00 AM

• Elementary & Advanced Check-in: 9:15 AM

• Novice I & Novice II Check-in: 9:45 AM

After Check-In for the section, the round will start ASAP
